Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipVeterans have been coming home to the Thomas Hopkins American Legion Post 4, for over 100 years.
Post 4 is one of the oldest posts in Kansas.
We received our charter June 26th of 1919.
We're in our third location.
Weve never closed.
I heard women even kept this open during World War II.
Our first location was at 336 North Topeka.
Then we moved to 126 North Saint Francis.
It's Bite Me Barbecue.
We moved out of there in ‘59 or 60.
Moved to our current location, what we call our hall.
1971 we broke ground for the bar side and we completed that in ‘74.
And we've been here ever since.
World War II.
I still get some Korean guys in here.
Desert Storm, Afghanistan and that.
We got a great Riders group.
Honor Guard.
And then we had the Vietnam.
And I would say this post is 80% Vietnam era.
We want to pass this off to the younger people.
I'm Tom Zwemke for PBS Kansas.
