For sure.
Let me just wrap this call up real fast.
yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
No problem.
Hey, Tim, are you up there?
Hey, Melvin, are you ready to wrap up the show?
no.
Yeah.
We literally, like, just started the show, like, a minute ago.
Oh, well.
What's I was just wondering, have you called anyone today Tim.
don't think so.
Well, except Wait, why did you call your mom?
you mean?
Well, it's just kind of weird because everyone here is calling their mom.
I mean, you called your mom.
Steve-O called his mom.
Stella called her mom.
What's going on?
Melvin, it's Mother's day.
Of a new guy.
You just find it and let's make it your good.
Let's get to your desk.
What happens?
We don't really know, Melvin.
You just yelled Mother's Day, and then you Day.
Hey, Melvin, it's Kevin Durant.
Remember me?
I'm still under here, and I hope it's okay if my mother comes over Yeah, that's that's fine.
Kevin no problem.
Man, what is going on?
Do you want to explain it to him this time?
Explain what to me?
focus, Melvin.
Okay, I'm focusing.
Focus, how do you expect me to focus when there's a butterfly in the studio?
Come on.
Melvin.
Okay, fine.
I'm focused.
Repeat after me.
Today Today is is.
Mother's Day.
Mother's day, but it's Mother's Day.
Oh, no, I totally forgot.
Melvin, you still have plenty of time to call your mom or even go see her after the show.
I nosedive.
Oh, but I forgot last year, too.
And to make up for it, I told my mom that I would get her the biggest, most incredible gift that she could ever imagine.
And I don't have anything bet you'll understand.
She won't.
Trust me.
Steve-O, you don't know my mom.
Well, what if we brainstorm some gift ideas?
You would really do that.
Steve-O.
course, I can tell this is stressing you out.
So let's think of some gifts.
What kind of things does your That's a great question.
She likes cooking, vacuuming, laundry, doing the dishes, making my birthday cake.
great, Melvin.
But maybe we should think of some gift ideas that aren't chores.
Oh, that's more than she would never expect it.
Exactly.
Think of something outside the box.
Try to think of something you've never in your mom that would completely surprise her.
What about flowers?
are a great idea.
Plus, there are so many to choose from.
You got tulips and lilies and roses.
Wait, that's the flower I want to get.
rose.
Yes.
Rose and I know exactly where to get it.
Low cold down on the ground.
For today's logo down the ground we're visiting Rose Hill, Kansas.
It was established in 1892.
I'm guessing with the name like that, it's probably the best place to get your mom roses.
Exactly.
Steve-O.
I mean, hold up.
It looks like I'm, I'm getting a note.
You just want me to read this?
Okay.
Rose Hill, Kansas, was named by JH Lowry in 1869.
Mr.
Lowry built a home about one mile south of the current elementary school, where he planted roses, shrubs and trees.
Lowry was originally from Rose Hill, New York, and his nursery stock and seeds from there to sell to settlers in Kansas.
Unfortunately, sales were halted to harsh Kansas blizzards, drought, and grasshoppers which would eventually ruin his stock completely and force him to move back to New York.
So from what I understand, the guy that named the town Rose Hill couldn't even grow roses there.
This could be a problem you visit somewhere else?
I don't think I can do that, Steve-O.
I mean, I already did the logo down on the ground jingle.
I showed the logo for the town, and, I already set up all my interviews.
was over 150 years ago, so I bet they have roses now.
Plus, it sounds like Jay just didn't know what he was doing.
I think that's a good way to think about it, Steve-O.
Let's go with that.
Anyway, let's not waste any more time and head to Hill.
Kansas.

I'm not a strong listener.
So, I need some practice.
And I saw you have the, official rules up here, so, can you walk me through them real fast?
Absolutely.
A listener pays attention.
A listener looks at the person that is talking.
A listener waits for the person to stop talking.

man, the only thing this Gaga pet is missing is, goo goo.
Then you could, like, add some babies, and then it would be a Google Gaga pet.
Man, I really should start writing down these ideas.
you got to tell me about this.
A water fountain in your classroom.
Yes.
I'm special.
My kids love to be able to come over here after snack time and get their own drink.
I'm gonna have to put one of these in my house.
I mean, I can get water from my fridge, obviously, but this would just be.
This is next level.
How long will it go?
Forever if you hold the button.
I'm wasting a lot of water right now.

Melvin, you are handsome too.
Yes.
Thank you.
What is your favorite thing to do in Rosehill, Kansas?
Go to school.
just come here.
I was a little confused by this answer at first.
I'm not going to lie, because we were already in the school, but the more I thought about it, I actually think Everett was just trying to save me some gas money because if he chose the school, then I wouldn't have to drive anyone new in Rosehill.
So Everett, thank you so much for being considerate of my finances, especially in this economy.
So, McKenzie, I am wondering, because I've been asking a lot of the kids around the school, what is your favorite thing to do in the Rose Hill, Kansas Fall Festival?
And October is one of my favorite things.
And so there's the parade.
We have the festival, we have the carnival downtown.
And funnel cake is my favorite part.
Oh, I love funnel cake.
What is your favorite thing to do in Roseville, Kansas?
Probably go visit the Griswold house.
here we are at the Griswold house.
And obviously they don't got lights on right now because it's not Christmas time, but I'm thinking maybe they could put up some Mother's Day lights and I could say something like, hey, mom, it's Melvin.
Really sorry I forgot about Mother's Day, but I put these lights on the Griswold house so you would know that I care about you and that I forgot.
So, McKenzie, I saw this pencil sharpener in your classroom.
And I'm wondering, does it sharpen anything?
Yeah, absolutely.
Okay, well, I would love to sharpen these scissors.
No, no, no, no, What is your favorite thing to do in Roselle, Kansas?
To play on the soccer field.
Oh, yeah.
How is the turf out there?
Is it old or is it new turf?
New turf.
Oh, yeah.
That's definitely new turf.
Oh, it's so nice.
Now, McKenzie, I'm kind of wanting a little quiet time, and I was wondering if I could borrow your noise canceling headphones so I could see what it's like when it's completely quiet in the classroom.
Yes, absolutely.
I have a pair right here for you, Melvin.
I can't hear anything.
Can you hear me?
Yes, I can hear you.
Okay.
Echo, I got I can hear everything again now.
What is your favorite thing to do in Rosehill, Kansas?
Go to the pond and ride around it with my friends.
Well, I was they didn't like to go around the pond.
I like to go over the pond.
Oh, just like that, Doop doop doop.
Just in Mrs.
Jones classroom.
Just going to the fridge to get my sim.
Where's my sandwich?
I ate it again.
Come on.
McKenzie.
That's the third time this week.
I just wanted my sandwich.
Math makes me hungry.
My peanut butter and ham sandwich.
Yeah.
You know, I need that.
I need those carbs, I need that.
I need that protein.
I keep opening it, hoping that maybe is in there.
But you know what?
Because we're friends, it's fine.
But you owe me a sandwich.
What is your favorite thing to do in Rosedale, Kansas?
I like to go in the morning, get some morning grit farm.
What is that?
It is a fun place where you can have birthdays and there's a bunch of animals.
last time I went there, the donkey was pregnant.
Oh, wow.
So there might be a baby.
Don't.
Oh, I got I got to go see that baby donkey.
I'm at Morning Grit Farm and I'm just looking for a baby donkey.
You are not a baby anymore.
That's for sure.
Okay.
McKenzie, I have to be honest.
The real reason I came to Rosehill today is that I want to find the Rose Hill rose for my mom.
And you've lived in Rosedale your whole life, so I was hoping maybe you would know where it is.
Yes, and I have a map to help us.
You know where it is.
And you want a map?
Yes, I do.
Let's see.
It's.
You gotta show the camera, guys.
well.
Very specific.
Got a picture of us together?
Yes.
And it just looks like it's just a straight line.
It's the most perfect.
Well, it's been great talking to you, McKenzie, but I got to go find this you go.
Wish me luck or.
No.
Do not want to wish me luck.
Good luck.
And I hope your mom loves her, rose.
I do too.
Let's go find it.
The.
What a fun time in Rosedale, Kansas.
Thank you to everyone that took the time to chat.
Well, look what I got.
Steve-O.
that really what I think it Yep.
It's the one and only Rose Hill.
Rose?
How did you get your hands on that?
It was a lot of work.
I mean, I had to walk up a hill, but I found it, and now I'm going to give it to my mom.
bet you'll love Melvin.
It's unique, beautiful, and most importantly, you worked so hard to get it.
I think the only thing you're missing now is a card to go with your gift.
card is a great idea to Steve-O.
And you know what?
I bet Lynn would help me make one at the PBS's Kansas co-chair Garvey Children's Education Discovery Center.
I'm going to head that way now.
And then that's been my mother's day.
Not really what I expected, but here I am now.
Well, that sounds like a really rough day, Melvin.
Yeah, even more rough for my mom, you know.
but Stevo mentioned that you had some cards over here, and I thought, you know what?
Let's make a card for my mom to add to my Rose Hill rose gift.
think that she will love it.
So we do have a card started already in the Ed Center that we're doing here.
Would you like to take a look?
Oh, yeah.
Love you.
The piece.
That is a perfect card for my mom.
Because you know what?
I love her to pieces.
I think we need to add some more color, though.
Does your does your mom like color?
Oh, yeah.
She loves colors.
Loves all the colors of the rainbow.
Loves them all.
So with this craft we use tissue paper okay.
And so it looks real pretty.
But I do have some already cut for you.
Oh okay.
Dump it on out.
All right.
See it.
So we'll dump this all out and look at all those colors.
Wow.
So many colors.
Does she have a favorite color?
I think her favorite color is green.
Oh, nice.
Nice.
Okay, well, that's great because we do have some green.
So with this craft it's pretty simple.
So we just have a glue stick.
Would you like to go I want to use the glue stick for sure so I can make it really sticky.
And then I'll have you put on the tissue paper, so I'm good.
That sounds good.
Do you need any help, Melvin?
Yeah.
Maybe I'm.
I'm just.
I'm not super confident right now with how Mother's Day has gone, so maybe just help me get this first one down.
All right, so we'll just kind of just kind of help you.
Yeah.
Just kind of step.
All right, well, then I got it from here.
Here we go.
Nice.
All right, then throw that tissue paper on.
Okay.
You said she likes green.
So I'm going to make sure to pick some green.
And then pink and purple.
Oh that's so purple.
So we'll get that all on here.
Oh it looks so good.
So I know that she's going to love everything that you do for her.
Oh yeah.
Yeah yeah.
Well I mean not necessarily, but no, but I should think that you don't worry about it.
Remember, it just comes from the heart.
Oh, yeah.
This one is definitely coming from the heart.
I was nervous at first that this card was going to be coming from my brain because I thought about it, but I do think it's coming from the heart.
Yeah, that's most important.
Definitely.
Okay, so that should do it.
You may want to take another look to see if there's.
I don't know, then it's perfect.
Don't touch it one more time.
Beautiful.
I like it.
Oh, I love it so much.
It's perfect.
She is going to love it.
So now I think it's time to write something in the card, write something nice for my mom, and then my handwriting is very bad.
So would you mind writing it?
I would love to do that for you.
Okay.
All right.
Just write exactly what I say I will, okay?
Don't hesitate at all.
I want Dear.
Mom.
No, don't scratch that.
Just cross that part off.
Dear mother of Melvin, okay?
No, I don't like.
Let's start over.
Let's just start off with a simple hello.
Got it.
Hello?
It's Melvin, Your son.
I am looking forward to seeing you soon.
And I'm really happy that it's Mother's Day, because I got to, celebrate you today, and, you are just an awesome mom.
And I'm sorry, I forgot about Mother's Day again.
I just wasn't thinking about it, and I'm just so busy with the show right now that I just.
I'm just stressed out, mom.
And I just hope that you can forgive me, but I've really been trying to get a lot of stuff for you.
Like the Rose Hill Rose and this card.
And, I hope that's enough presents.
I didn't have a lot of time because obviously I'm busy with the show and I had to dedicate this whole episode to getting you presents when I wasn't originally supposed to be.
That.
And I just.
I'm really happy that you are my mom and I love you so much.
The end.
And then just, read my name.
Melvin m e l v I n. Oh my goodness, look at that.
Oh, I love it so much.
She's going to love that card.
That is a personal message.
And guess what, Lynn?
What?
Everything I just said, it was just in my brain.
I didn't even I didn't even have that planned.
I just I just said what I thought.
Well, that's right, because it's from the heart.
And exactly most important.
All right, Lynn, well, I'll take the card.
here and I will take it back to the studio.
And I will be giving it to my mom very soon.
But thank you so much for helping me out.
You're welcome.
Let me know what she thinks we'll do.
Thanks, Lynn.
Check it out, Steve-O.
What do you think of the card?
looks so great.
Melvin.
I think your mom is going to love it.
Are you ready to give her your gift?
Almost.
While I think these gifts are great.
I think it would be good to check in with my mom's best friend just to make sure I'm on the right track.
well, that makes sense.
What's your mom's best friend's Her name is Laura.
Laura is a drawing that was sent in by one of our viewers to put in our creator box.
And if you're interested in having your drawing featured on the show, you can email us at Melvin at kids.org.
Laura was sent in by Yuki from Wichita.
Let's put Laura in the creative box so she can help me with my Mother's Day gift for my mom.
Hey, Laura.
Welcome to the show.
It's been too long.
How's your mom She's doing great.
And actually, the reason I wanted you to be here is because of her.
You see, I got my mom some Mother's Day gifts right here, and I'm wanting to know your thoughts on them.
What's the Well, I got her this card, and I also got her a Rose Hill rose.
your mom is going to love You really think so?
Absolutely.
But I do have one Of course.
What are you thinking?
should wrap the gift.
And when you do it, make sure you use some really cute wrapping paper.
Oh, that's super smarts.
I don't have any wrapping paper, though.
worry, Melvin, I got you covered.
Hand it over Okay.
I mean, if you say so.
Well, thanks.
Laura.
I didn't realize you needed a drill and a saw to wrap up a present, but I guess everyone has their own strategy.
So, Laura, are you going to stick around while I call my mom to wish her happy Mother's Day?
would, but I'm a mother myself, so I'm spending the rest of the day with my kids and grandkids.
Oh, that sounds like so much fun.
Well, have a great time.
And thank you for all your help.
problem.
Tell your mom I said hi.
We'll do well.
Today's guest is someone really special and someone that I love a lot.
My mom.
My mom.
Well, she's my mom.
He's a really nice lady.
She has four kids, including me and my brother and my two sisters.

She's pretty smart.
She smells good.
She likes Melvin mania.
Her best friend's name is Laura, who everyone just met.
And she's a nice lady.
think I already said that one.
Melvin.
I think we got the gist of Oh, sorry.
Steve.
I'm just.
I'm just really what the teleprompter says.
wow.
It actually says that.
My bad.
Keep Okay.
Well, where was I?
Right.
She's a nice lady.
I think I already said that one.
And last but not least, she's the best mom in the whole wide world.
Please help me in welcoming my mom to the show.
Well, does anyone know where the TV is?

I don't think so.
you forget about Mother's Day again?
No.
Yes, yes I did, I did, you know.
Melvin.
I can always tell when something's up.
Plus, you texted me earlier today asking how long you should microwave shredded cheese on tortilla chips so I could tell you had other things on That's true.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, I did remember way earlier in the day this year.
I mean, I still fainted and everything, but.
yeah, but it's not a big deal, Steve.
Oh, just reminded me that it was Mother's Day.
I fell on the ground real quick, and then the next thing I know, I was at my desk.
Right.
Stevo?
well, Actually, it was You fainted two times, Melvin.
Apparently I did.
that's not good, Melvin.
Have you been remembering to drink water?
yeah, of course I've had three pops today.
water.
Have you been drinking water Pop has water in it.
Mom, come on, you know that.
Okay, can we talk about this later, though?
You're kind of embarrassing me in front of my friends.
sorry.
I didn't realize it was embarrassing that your mom cares so much about you.
There it is.
I mean, it's not worth it.
Okay, fine.
You're right.
Mom, I need to drink more water anyway.
Do you remember what I told you?
Last mother's Day?
think so.
It was about a gift, right?
Yes.
So last year, after I forgot it was Mother's Day.
Like this Yes.
Like this year.
Thank you for reminding me.

It's a present.
You got to open it.
I'm not actually there, right?
Oh, yeah.
Forgot about that.
Just give me one suck.
Here you go, mom.
Now you can open it, and I'll see you in the studio.
All right, go ahead and open it.
Mom.
I'm going to open the card first and read it.
This is really nice handwriting.
Who wrote this for you?
Melvin?
my friend learn she has super nice handwriting and wrote down exactly what I love it, especially because it's homemade.
Should I open the present now?
I'm so excited for you to see what I got you mom!
Also, if you can't tell Laura, help me wrap it.
That's why it looks so good.
She also told me to tell you hi!
Is this one.
I think it is, Melvin.
It is, you get your hands on a Rose hill?
Rose?
listen, it wasn't easy.
But I got a lot of connections, and Roselle and I also had a map.
it's beautiful, and I love it.
You really outdid yourself, Melvin.
my best and I hope it makes up for me forgetting your big day.
It definitely does.
This gift is the biggest, most incredible gift I could have ever received.
Really?
Really?
And you want to know why?
because of the card or maybe the rose?
Never mind.
It's the wrapping paper, isn't It's not any of those.
Man.
I'm sorry.
Mom.
It's because it's from you.
It's for my sweet, caring and always considerate Melvin.
it.

I know you got plans with dad, but, thanks for coming on the show.
And happy Mother's Day.
I love you so much.
Thank you.
Melvin.
I love you too.
Before I start wrapping up the show, you may have noticed something new on my desk.
This is wasabi seaweed, and it was sent in by our Melvin maniacs, Emmy, Eric the Third, Dr.
Malcolm and Leo.
And just like my mom, it seems like these kids want me to start eating more healthy.
And, you know what?
I think it's time to start doing that.
Even though I love pizza, it's time to give seaweed a try.
If you're interested in becoming a Melvin maniac, you can visit CBDs, dawg, or scan the QR code on the screen.
