Welcome to another edition of Inside the Cover.
A few months ago, one of our viewers contacted the station, suggesting that I might be interested in attending a meeting of the Kansas Writers Association.
The Kansas Writers Association was organized as a not for profit corporatio in 1996 dedicated to informing, supporting, and promoting writers.
My talented director and friend Phil Searle went with me.
We were warmly welcomed by group of sociable, enthusiastic and committed writer very serious about their craft.
Before the formal program began, several of the authors in attendance shared copies of their books with me.
Cathy Feimster, Sonny Collins, Jessie Kay Fishel, Louise Z. Pelzl, who writes under the pen name of Z.
Minor, and Brian Belzer, the current president of the Kansas Writers Association.
Jana Dahmen shared five of her books, and I want to feature her work during the remainder of our program.
It is now time to go inside the cover.
Miss Dahmen i a prolific and committed writer.
She's also an artist creating the artwork that adorns the covers of her books.
Now residing in Wichita Dahmen was born in Sweetwater, Texas, and her background is in ranching and farming.
She was born and raised o the grass plains of West Texas with endless wind, dust, and desert conditions.
Her historical fiction books are based in the 1800s, when America was just getting settled and going through the growing pains of new beginnings.
Dahmen's books are as follows.
Bona Fid Cowgirl was copyrighted in 2019.
This story begins in 1878, in the New Mexico Territory.
The young heroine, Ruby Red Blake, has escaped from a raid on her family's home by Mexican bandidos, which brought the savage murder of her father and mother and the destruction of the family home.
Ruby has also escaped with her young brother Bowie, and she is determined to protect him and to forge a new life together.
Broken Pieces was copyrighted in 2021.
It is the first book in the three part Byrd River series.
This book is set on the high plains of West Texas in 1869.
Marianne Barton is 16 and a brutal attack leaves her pregnant.
The unmarried young woman is shunned by her community and circumstances are desperate.
Qynnes Canyon is the secon part of the Byrd River series.
It was copyrighted in 2023.
When Pinkerton agent Qynne Preston boards the stagecoach running from Fort Worth to Spur, Texas.
Her life is dramatically changed in ways she could never imagine.
The final segment of the Byrd River series is Byrd Ranch Legacy which was copyrighted in 2024.
In this book, we learn more about the Byrd family as it has grown over the years.
Dahmens most recent book is Willheim Brandt which was copyrighted in 2025, and it is the first i the two part Cameo Trail series.
Willhei Brandt was just another cowboy carving out a life for himself in the West.
Like so many other young men in the 1850s.
He hires out to become a wrangler on the cattle drives north, and he becomes an experienced and seasoned cowboy.
However, before he can settle down, he must honor his brother Tobias, even if it require a major change in his own life.
I found Dahmen to be a creative storyteller whose writing deeply and proudly reflects her upbringing.
I am happy to recommend these books to you.
Jana Dahmens book can also be purchased on Amazon or by contacting he at the address on your screen.
